4th Annual International Disaster Law Course

Sanremo – 12-16 June 2017

Following a consolidated tradition, the IDLP is happy to announce the dates and venue of the 4th Annual International Disaster Law Course. The 2017 Edition of the Course will take place in Sanremo, Italy from 12 to 16 June. Organized and managed jointly by the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) of Sanremo and the Disaster Law Programme of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), the Course will be directed by Isabelle Granger (Global Legislative Advocacy Coordinator, IFRC), Lucia Cipullo (IFRC Disaster Law Programme), and the IDLP Coordinating Team.

The course enjoys the support of the Italian Red Cross and the EU Jean Monnet Module on “International and European Disaster Law” of Roma Tre University.

This year’s faculty will again include Dr. Eduardo Valencia-Ospina (Special Rapporteur of the International Law Commission on the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters), Professor Walter Kälin (former Representative of the Secretary-General on the human rights of internally displaced persons and Special Envoy of the Nansen Initiative), along with other distinguished speakers from academia and key international organizations.

The Course will adopt a mixed methodology, including lectures, practical exercises and group works, providing a dynamic and tailored learning environment for graduate and post-graduate students (in the areas of law, humanitarian or development studies, international relations) as well as disaster management and humanitarian practitioners from governments, international and regional organizations, NGOs and National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
