IIHL

The International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) is one of the most authoritative research and training centre for the promotion of international humanitarian law, humanitarian assistance and human rights. The IIHL works in close collaboration with the most important international organisations dedicated to the humanitarian cause (eg. UNHCR, the International Federation of Red Cross, EU). It has consultative status with the United Nations and the Council of Europe.

The Directive Council of the IIHL emphasises the scientific prestige of the Institute. Its president is Professor Fausto Pocar, former president of the ICTY. Among members of the Council we can also mention: Hisashi Owada (President of the International Court of Justice, The Hague); Yoram Dinstein (emeritus professor of the Tel Aviv University); Baldwin De Vidts (former legal adviser to the NATO Secretary-General); Marie Jacobsson (Member of the UN International Law Commission).

The Institute organises conferences and round tables on thematic areas relevant for our research and has a fundamental role in dissemination-training activities for armed forces, civil servants of IOs, NGOs personnel. The partnership with the IIHL can involve several activities, taking into account the specific interest of the Institute for IDRL. We will organise joint research activities also involving the dissemination of predicted results, as well as the inclusion of personnel working at the IIHL within research groups.

The International Institute of Humanitarian Law will, in particular, host the 1st International Disaster Law Course,  in cooperation with the IDL Project, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with the support of the Italian Red Cross, from 28 April to 2 May 2014, in Sanremo, Italy.
